How can lightweight design become more circular? What role are composites playing in this? And what developments in this field is the Fraunhofer CCPE researching? Sascha Kilian, Head of the Research Department Application and Demonstration at the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy CCPE, answers these questions in a short interview. Recycled plastics could already be used to a much greater extent. However, this requires more high-quality recyclates on the market. And these do not only come from material recycling. This is exactly the topic that the next Fraunhofer CCPE compact will address on May 4, 2023, under the motto "Recyclates in Primary Material Quality - Status and Perspectives of Advanced Recycling".

Under the motto "Get into the loop", an international circular economy community will meet for the first time in Munich on February 8 and 9, 2023, at the Fraunhofer CCPE Summit under the leadership of UMSICHT Institute Director Prof. Manfred Renner. It is the starting signal for an international forum that promotes the exchange of solution ideas and innovations for a circular plastics economy. For about four years, six Fraunhofer institutes have been dedicated in the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy CCPE to the question of how the value chain of plastics can be made circular.

Since 2018, Fraunhofer CCPE has been researching how the plastics value chain can become circular. At the K trade fair from October 19 to 26, Fraunhofer CCPE will present promising developments for a successful transformation from a linear to a circular plastics economy. In Hall 7, booth number 70SC01-3, interested parties can learn more about, for example, the web-based self-check tool CRL® , a sustainable reusable transport box, cascading recycling, circular product design or the degradation behavior of films.
