New BKV study

New Study : »Recycled Content in the Automotive Sector – Availability Remains a Key Challenge«

The availability of recycled plastics is a central factor for increasing the use of recyclates in the automotive sector. A recent study by BKV (Beteiligungs- und Kunststoffverwertungsgesellschaft) examines the current availability of recycled materials and the conditions required for their broader application in automotive components.

The study shows that demand for recycled plastics is increasing, driven by regulatory developments and sustainability targets. At the same time, challenges remain regarding the consistent availability and quality of recyclates, as well as their suitability for demanding technical applications.

In the automotive sector, materials must meet strict requirements in terms of performance, safety and durability. These requirements can limit the use of recycled plastics, particularly when material properties vary or are not sufficiently standardized.

The analysis also indicates that improving the availability of recyclates requires further development of recycling processes and stable material flows. In addition, coordination along the value chain plays an important role in enabling the use of recycled materials in automotive applications.

The study provides an overview of current developments and highlights key factors that influence the use of recycled plastics in the automotive sector.
