The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development provides a comprehensive overview of current challenges related to plastics through a series of policy-oriented analyses and publications. These contributions address the environmental, economic and systemic implications of plastics along their entire life cycle, from production and consumption to waste management and recycling.
Across its work, the OECD emphasizes that plastic pollution and resource inefficiency cannot be addressed through isolated measures alone. Instead, integrated policy approaches are required, combining material efficiency, improved recycling systems, product design for circularity and internationally aligned regulatory frameworks. The analyses further highlight the importance of data, monitoring and scenario-based assessments to support evidence-based decision-making.
By consolidating research and policy insights into plastics, the OECD contributes to a deeper understanding of how circular economy strategies can reduce environmental impacts while maintaining economic functionality.
